Bibliotheca Nostra. Śląski Kwartalnik Naukowy, 2011, nr 4, s. 52-60
Since the ancient times the art tells us, the contemporary ones, the history of its rotagonists. The figure of the book was frequently used, and its role, function and the meaning always depends on the artist or the writer, the age and genre which it belongs to. The article presents the examples of various works of art (of literature and painting) which show the development of the book symbolism and its physical form, as well as the evolution of
the reading process and the figure of the reader. The interpretation shows the book collection
as a “garden of all the possibilities” and the library as the “picture of the world”.
