Abstract

At the stage of the high-mountain expedition the alpinist has to face many aspects of his/her own culture; during the journey he/she crosses the boundaries of foreign cultures, whereas the moment of hiking shows him/her the capabilities of his/her own body or nature. Thus, alpinism is a transgression of cultural, epistemiological, material and knowledge-based boundaries. The discourse of alpinism has aimed at a sort of exposure of the requirements of body and natural environment, and their simultaneous familiarization, however not by means of aprioric epistemiological mechanisms, but in the course of a conscious reference of them to the individual in experience. Experience implies here both the knowledge of the axiological system, and the necessity of an individual reference to the cultural rules, interiorized knowledge of moral norms which are being confronted with their ontic basis and revalued in the finiteness of time and space (also cultural) in which they appear.
