Zapach w poezji Anny Świrszczyńskiej

Abstract

The article draws on the fragrances that dominate in the poetry written by Anna Świrszczyńska – it means: the odours associated with the organic matter, the matter of the body that lives, experiences and suffers. It should be noted that the key to this world of smells may be the biography of the poet, in particular her traumatic experiences of the Second World War. The scent appears to be a complement to the touch, the particularly important sense in these poems. Smelling seems to be like touching at a distance or the experience of the doubtful presence (in the absence of the body). In this way (referring to the sense of smell) the poet points to the unmet need for physical and emotional closeness with another human being.
