The article deals with texts [paratexts] that accompany television programs in the
Polish public television. The paratexts discussed precede [in time] the broadcasted
program [in the further or closer future], and that is why the author calls them pretexts.
She discusses pre-texts because these are spaces, which are exposed to contact in
television, which gives up on educational function in favor of establishing a good contact
with a viewer. The author comes up with a typology of pre-texts, points at diversity
of functions of individual types and their language features:
- Spots with narrator’s voice in the background
- Spots with participation of the author of the program
- Announcements of presenters
- Featured announcements
- Interviews as a pre-text function.
