Abstract

The aim of the article is to find out what kind of text corpora can be used in the studies of conversation, its structure and functions. The author suggests that the following kinds of older and newer texts might prove useful: dictionary definitions, treaties on conversations, literary texts concerning conversation, literary genres based on the model of conversation, metatextual utterances of literary characters, formulas, proverbs, maxims, collocations and directive-prescriptive texts. She believes that the data from these sources will allow studying not only modem conversation, but also the changes and varieties of conversation on various synchronic planes.
