Kwiat kalafiora a PRL

Abstract

The present article is an attempt to reconstruct selected aspects of the culture of the Communist Poland on the basis of the realistic novel Kwiat kalafiora by Małgorzata Musierowicz. The represented world of the novel is treated here as a source of knowledge about culture, assuming that there is a link between the novel’s text and the world external to the text. This link is based on the notion of probability. The has carried out here an analysis and an interpretation of selected elements of the material culture, the culture of ideas, and the behaviours characteristic of that epoch. Worthy of note here the significant nature of the way of dressing, the living space, relations between neighbours etc. The author strives then to discover what is hidden behind the social and moral realia in Musierowicz’s prose.
