Abstract

Disability is a serious problem , not only for the disabled person but also for their family and social surroundings. Particulary difficult is the situation of families with a disabled child. In many cases we observe pauperism in such families, which is often connected with psychological and social problems. The presence of the disabled child in the family often contributes to an extension of the family’s educational and tutelary function, to changes in the matters of health and material existence, in the adults’ plans for the future, in the family’s mobility and in its size, as well as in its relations with more distant family members and social surroundings. It is disquieting to observe so many provinces of life in which are affected by the disability of a family member. Almost all functions of the family are put in danger. It is ne-cessary then for various social groups and institutions to co-operate so as to help the families in need in solving their problems.
