dc.description.abstract | During the second half of the twentieth century, up until the change of political circumstances in the 1990s, Ranko Marinković, along with Miroslav Krleža and Vladan Desnica, was one of the most translated Croatian writers in Poland. From the 1960s, his novels "Cyclops" and "The Shared bath" as well as a series of short stories appeared in Polish translation, both in book editions and in literary magazines. The paper analyses the fragments of Marinković's prose – in particular, the short story "Dust" – and explores the concept of translation as a type of cultural transfer, the strategies of a translator as those of a mediator, focusing on the impact of Polish socio-political context in translation strategies, and consequently, on the reception in the target culture, resulting in deletion of one of the most important aspects of Marinković's prose – the irony. | pl_PL |
