Populacja chomika europejskiego Cricetus cricetus (Linnaeus, 1758) w Siemianowicach Śląskich (Polska) w 2009 roku oraz ocena zagrożeń

Abstract

The paper discusses the distribution and ecology of the European hamster (Cricetus cricetus) in Siemianowice Śląskie (Poland) based on data collected in 2009. The inventoried localities of hamster burrows are presented. A total of 22 winter localities were found in the study area. Burrows were located in three city districts – Michałkowice (14), Bytków (6) and Bańgów (2) – but no active ones were found in the Przełajka District. The location of burrows is analysed, together with slope and soil type. The prospects of survival of this species and its habitats in the city are discussed. Different factors affect the local population, but the gradual decline in agricultural areas in recent years is the biggest threat.
