Międzyzakładowy Komitet Założycielski Katowice NSZZ "Solidarność" w otoczeniu społeczno-kulturowym regionu (1980-1981)

Abstract

The article describes the activities in the socio-cultural area of the Katowice Voivodeship in 1980–1981 led by the Inter-Company Workers’/Founding Committee NSZZ “Solidarity” set up at the turn of August and September 1980 with its temporary seat in the “Katowice” Plant; which then turned out to be one of the most dynamically operating regional centres of the trade union independent from the communist authorities. The lack of freedom perceptible by the Polish society brought the opinion of the “Solidarity” of the 80-s of the 20th century as not only a trade union defending the workers’ rights, but also, or even mainly, as a structure which helped in the realisation of various public initiatives, played major part in the socio-cultural area of the region, constituted the beginnings of the civic society whose development was impeded by the introduction of the martial law.
