Abstract

The prefects of the Duchy of Warsaw played an important role in the Polish lands during the Napoleonic period. They helped develop the Duchy of Warsaw’s institutions, and werean important liaison between the central administration and the provinces. At the same time, as a social group, they were the link between old Polish dignitaries and new, highly qualifi ed, modern bureaucrats.
