Abstract

The aim of the study was to analyze the existing differences in the severity of state and trait anxiety between two groups of young people including the sex factor. This research involved two groups of adolescents: youth offenders from correctional facilities for minors and high school students constituting the control group. In total 266 people were assessed. The study used The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory by Ch. D. Spielberger R. L. Gorsuch and R. E. Lushene. The research was quantitative. The obtained results showed that the studied groups of young people significantly differentiate the severity of the manifested state anxiety, understood as the transient and situational condition of the individual and the trait anxiety, understood as a relatively constant disposition for experiencing anxiety. Overall, the analysis of empirical data has revealed that there are no statistically significant differences between boys and girls in both groups regarding state and trait anxiety.
