Abstract

The author describes the process of replacement of elites in democracy. She explores the underlying causes of election defeat suffered by current elites (in Western Europe, USA, Poland) and the emergence of new elites, taking into consideration the theses of Vilfredo Pareto’s theory of circulation of elites. She looks into the causes of the growing popularity of populist messages, which continue to diverge from the so-called political correctness. She points to the increasing role of virtual community (Internet users) in the changing of political elites.
