Abstract

What is crucial for promoting young people’s participation in the life of the local community (understood as aiming at activities in the social space and at influencing the social environment) is the activity of school and the support from organizations, communities and local authorities. Taking into account the standpoint of university learners studying at the Faculty of Ethnology and Education of the University of Silesia (inhabitants of the town and county of Cieszyn and students coming from further places), the evaluation was presented in the text of the contribution of educational institutions as well as the nature and suggestions for some local initiatives. They concern the implementation of democratic principles of coexistence among the young, urging them to get interested in the issues of the local community
