Abstract

Oncological disease, being a difficult situation for both its sufferer and their family system, presents a task which ought to be tackled by a social worker primarily in the living environment. The purpose of this article is to deepen reflection on social work in the living environment, which usually included the dyad: an oncological patient and their main caregiver. The actions undertaken by social workers, oriented towards informal caregivers, and thus “supporting the supporters,” can alleviate the negative consequences of the care-related responsibilities overload, which applies not only to caregivers but also to dependent patients and their entire families.
