| Abstrakt: | The answer to the question – can the essay be a subject of contemporary linguistic genol-ogy? – is the key subject of the article. This question is both search for the genological status of essays and exploring the cognitive possibilities of contemporary linguistics in the field of recognizing and modelling the types of texts. In the first part of the paper the author pays special attention to the existence of essay in the tradition of literary genology, emphasizing the variety of essay’s definitions and raising the problem of its status as a genre. The second part of the article is the proposal of further research on the essays as a type of text. This proposal was made on the basis of the assumption that the essay can be studied as the phenomenon of speech genre. |
