Abstract

This article deals with two types of determinisms: cognitive and cultural. It attempts to prove that cognitive determinism plays an essential role, particularly factors responsible for the perception of the size of objects and that determine the formation of basic level sets on the basis of overall similarity. Sets or concepts, which have been initially distinguished in such a manner, are modified through cultural factors, mainly by gestures and the use of the same names for objects belonging to a set or various names for objects not belonging to it. All these actions are aimed at enabling the learner to gain the ability to use a language accepted in a given culture.
