Ksiądz Oskar Zawisza w służbie ludu Śląska Cieszyńskiego

Abstract

Father Oskar Zawisza (1878—1933) was an outstanding priest, historian, ethnographer, composer who devoted all his life to Cieszyn Silesia. He was born in Jablonkov in a teacher family. Having finished seminary, he worked in Błędowice, Strumień, Cieszyn and Cierlick among other things. He co-worked with “Gwiazda Cieszyńska” and “Zaranie Śląskie”. He published several historical and folklore works. He was the author of “Śpiewnik Górniczy”, numerous music plays, including a symphony Z niwy śląskiej, two melodramas and 1 opera. He devoted all his life to people he came from whereas the specificity of his work was directing himself towards social issues.
