Dla kogo i po co? : społeczne konteksty funkcjonowania uniwersytetów trzeciego wieku na przykładzie Jaworznickiego Uniwersytetu Trzeciego Wieku

Abstract

The author presents considerations concerning social contexts of the functioning of third age universities, illustrating them with references to an actual example of a university for the elderly. She compares two models of universities: the British and the French one, showing their specific character and justification rooted in present reality. The author describes the functions of third age universities, particularly their role in preparing society to active life in the old age, to social integration and to building a positive image of the old age. In the second part of the paper, the author presents a characteristics of the Jaworzno University of the Third Age describing its history, activity and conditions for its functioning.
