dc.description.abstract | In the poems of St. John of the Cross are some characteristic words, which a carmelite
poet use, when he want to describe the process of human spiritual journey toward
God, and want to express his own experience of meeting incomprehensible. These are, for example,
concepts such as night, flame, bridegroom and bride, the source, the cave, the wound.
Their analysis reveals that in poetic discourse St. John these terms gain their specific, unique
meaning.
The symbols, which are used by St. John of the Cross have a double value: 1) associated
with the world of references to the primary, the ordinary meaning of the concept (reading in
the context of the literal sense), 2) making the reference to the imaginary world of Spanish
Mystique, to the symbolic and theological space which they themselves create.
The symbolism in the works of the Castilian writer in the first has a spiritual character,
followed by — the literary (the second dimension is used by the first — St. John has done
poetry as a tool of his apostolate). Particular symbols contain the elements of different origin
(derived from nature, from the biography of St. John, from the biblical tradition and the
Fathers of the Church). This symbols referred to a spiritual (theological) reality play the role
of a teacher. | pl_PL |
