Abstract

The situation of women on the labour market is not optimistic – among the countries of the European Union, Poland has a relatively low employment index of women with small children. The growing social and cultural expectations require a woman to fulfil social roles ascribed to her, including combining a career with motherhood. The roles of a woman become a determinant of her position as a full-value family member and worker in a social hierarchy. Contradictory expectations directed at working mothers may result in a conflict of social roles ascribed to them.
