Abstrakt: | This article offers a landscape analysis of architectural features typical of various regions in Poland which use local rock resources as a building material. The subject matter concerns the architecture of small towns and villages, where rock resources have been the main building material for at least 200 years. Rock resources are regionally distinctive, typical of residential, farming and industrial buildings, street architecture and property fences. These particular, usually small-scale elements of the cultural landscape of Poland are becoming relic in their character. This paper tackles relatively well recognised and catalogued residential buildings, such as castles, palaces or strongholds, which constitute strong components of the Polish and European heritage, to a limited extent. Nowadays, these objects are spectacular tourist attractions and their maintenance is required by law. The article points to trends in changes in the use of rock resources in individual buildings, and particularly to the current trends of removing, rebuilding or modernising these elements of the cultural landscape of Poland. |
