Kilka uwag o edytorsko-typograficznym kształcie francuskich dzieł Jana Potockiego

Abstract

Jan Potocki belonged to a numerous group of Enlightenment writers who wrote in French. How did his works, both fictional and scholarly, gain their editorial and typographic form? First of all we are struck by the masterly use of various type faces, particularly in scholarly works. Mainly the dissertations, though sometimes also the fiction works, are provided with prefaces, sometimes with afterwords, written by Potocki himself, or by the editor, in which the editorial strategy of a given work is explained. Numerous works come complete with errata. Some of the works contain lists of works published by Potocki, in which some advertising information can be found. There is a difference between the works he published in Poland, and those he published in Russia; among other things, the Russian editors, as opposed to the Polish ones, recognised the author's title of a count. Potocki's works give us a lot of interesting information on the editorial and typographic culture of the Enlightenment.
