Abstract: While inspecting the rooms of Cracow’s State Record Office at Wawel existence of many noxious insects causing serious damages in collected archives was discovered. The edges of leather- -bound folio books and soft covers of some copies of documents were the places in which the effects of destructive insects’ activity was particularly strongly noticed. It was stated that in all the rooms of Record Office almost 80%/o leatherbound folio books were attacked by insects. There were insects representing butterflies and cockchagers among noxious insects found in the rooms of Archive Office. The first group was represented by the moth. Among discovered cockchagers there were: the dermestic, the carpet beetle and the death-watch. Clearing away of those insects from the specimens and rooms is crucial in order to protect the archival collection. It demands to undertake complete extermination of vermin and taking into account the sort of damaging objects - fumigation process with the use of ethylene oxide will be the most proper.
