Style komunikacji międzypokoleniowej

Abstract

The young-old relationship is yet another example of a striking contrast between WE —THEY, UNFOREIGN—FOREIGN, manifested in the field of the culture, politics, religion, sociology opposition, the components of which express the sense of identity and foreigness of the group members, such as the cultural, ethnic, national, sexual, and gender one. This opposition cannot be deprived of the influence on the language and its communicative usage deepening the in-between generation distance. The subject of the article is the style dimension in the communication between generations. The author generates the list of the problems which should be taken into consideration in the studies on the stylistic aspects of verbal communication between generations. When the representatives of two generations come into contact with each other, there are three possible variants of the course of the interaction: 1) each of the interactors retains his/ her own way of speaking - as a result of which the communication becomes difficult or even may be blocked - the confrontational style; 2) the two parties show compromising tendencies, willing to understand the other side if the aim of the communication act is to communicate - the consensus style; 3) the sides take on (adopt and adapt! the interlocutor’s style - the adaptation (caméléon) style.
