Abstract

Translation has a very broad and rich history. Since its birth, translation has been the subject of a variety of research and arguments between theorists. Each theorist approaches it according to his viewpoint and field of research, a fact that endows its history with a quality of change. Discussions over the theory and practice of translation reach back into Antiquity and show a remarkable continuity. The purpose of this paper is to present a brief history of the translation theory between the 16th and the 20th centuries.
