Stan i perspektywy studiów nad antykiem w Uniwersytecie Śląskim w Katowicach

Abstract

The studies on Antiquity are conducted in four faculties at University of Silesia in Katowice. The oldest in the Department of Ancient History at the Faculty of Social Sciences, and the second oldest in the Department of Classics at the Faculty of Philology. The studies on Christian Antiquity are conducted at the Faculty of Theology in the Department of Patristic Theology and the History of the Church and in the Department of Biblical Theology of the Old and the New Testament. Systematic studies on the philosophy of Antiquity are conducted in the Department of Ancient and Medieval Philosophy. Studies on the reception of Antiquity are taken up at the Department of Comparative Literature, the Department of the History and Theory of Culture, The Department of Theater and Drama, the Department of Art History and the Department of Roman Law. The development of the studies on Antiquity in Katowice indicates the intellectual potential of that community, for whom the undertaking of shared, interdisciplinary research and didactic projects constitutes a new challenge.
