Abstract: The author studies the traces of vampire consciousness, verbalised by the vampire representatives of popular culture. The “new literary vampire” created by Stephenie Meyer in her cycle of novels entitled Twilight, is the subject to the present research. The identity of a contemporary literary vampire is both individual and collective. The vampire is aware of being part of a group characterised with specific psycho‑physical features and dietary needs, but he/she also manifests a strong sense of being an individual who, though resembling his/her kinsmen, feels special and unique, existing in the world and experiencing it individually. The vampire’s textually mediated identity maintains the features of a human being whom he/she was before transformation, yet, quite understandably, it also derives from his/her vampire’s existence.
