Abstract: The development of specialized sciences is a challenge for representatives of the humanities, and consequence is a discussion on the status of the humanities, which takes place in the last decades of the nineteenth century and at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth century. What is called N antipositivist turn, was initiated by Wilhelm Dilthey, but an important contribution into discussion on the status of the humanities is made by neo-Kantians. This article is an short attempt to present the position of representatives of Baden and Marburg school in this discussion. Badenians concentrates on the separetness of humanities from the natural sciences, ant the Marburgians wants to show a special position of philosophy in the science system. The common denominator of these concepts, however, is the need to show the importance of the humanities in the development of the civilization of mankind, aware of the fact that the nascent humanities is a problem for science.
