Abstract: Michał Kłosiński’s chapter Breaking into the Real constitutes a critique of phenomenological and hermeneutic propositions construed by game studies researchers from the perspective of Paul Ricoeur’s philosophy. The main thesis of this elaboration is the need to rethink the reflection on video games from the point of view of ontology and existentialism, which so far has been either neglected or misread. The text is related to a proposition of new hermeneutics of video games founded on Paul Ricoeur’s philosophy and methodological faithfulness towards the notions he utilizes. The title metaphor links with the critique of metaphysical models produced by game studies, which separates the reflection about video games from researching the problem of Dasein.
