dc.description.abstract | In the present study, the breakfast televisions from two different European countries have
been presented: the Polish Dzień dobry TVN (Good Morning TVN), and the Daybreak from Great
Britain. The aim of analysing the particular episodes of early morning news show programmes
was to determine to what extent breakfast television may be considered in the category of a supranational
magazine. The analysis of the collected material has shown that, with regard to the
surface structure (including: ident, studio design, camera presence on location, appearance and
behaviour of the presenter, invited guests, the number and type of the discussed topics, graphic
elements) and the deeper layers of the text (the transceiver situation in studio, communication
with the viewer, analysis of the woman image in this type of programmes, and taboo themes),
only a little diversity among the morning magazines could be observed. What differentiated
them, however, was the desire of the particular television stations’ program directors to present
the same convention in a slightly different way. The strongly exposed self-reference, in turn,
remained unchanged.
Despite accentuating their country’s cultural autonomy in each of the presented episodes, the
selected breakfast programmes did not contribute to the creation of an entirely new and unique
image. The examined breakfast televisions manifested certain tendency towards universalisation,
which confirms the hypothesis about the supranational character of this television genre in Europe,
formulated in the present study. | pl_PL |
