Rola księży Jana i Pawła Brandysów w kształtowaniu historii ziemi śląskiej

Abstract

The article presents the activities and accentuates the prominent role of priests Paweł (1869—1950, the parish priest in Michałkowice in Upper Silesia, national and plebiscitary activist) and the younger Jan (1886—1970) Brandys. They advocated uniting Silesia with Poland; apart from ecclesial work, they participated in wide social and political activities: Paweł in the parliamentary field, first as a representative in the parliament of the II German Reich, elected from the Koło Polskie list, and later — as a Christian Democrat senator of the reborn II Polish Republic; Jan in the military field, as a soldier and chaplain of Silesian Uprisings and the Polish Army. They were both engaged in public life, guided by the social doctrines of the Church, especially after the publishing of the encyclical Rerum novarum of Pope Leon XIII (May 15th, 1891).
