Nieoczywistość i wciąż nieoswojona przestrzeń - proza Andrzeja Stasiuka jako głos w dyskusji na temat Europy Środkowej

Abstract

A map of a literary life after 1989 contains an interesting point, namely works by Andrzej Stasiuk. The author from Dukla is known not only in a wide circle of readers, but also appreciated by experts, although at the same time arouses arguments and belongs to the circle of a popular literature. The article pays attention to the works by a writer from Beskidzie that were published after 2000, in which the issue of Central Europe was raised. Referring to an earlier discussion devoted to the very subject-matter, the author of the article asks the question to what an extent Stasiuk’s “European” texts constitute a new voice and different perspective. The analysis of the role of history, geography, borderlines, marginal position of the region and problematic identity of its inhabitants allows for noticing important and symptomatic changes in a Central-European reflection typical of a contemporary literary life, and numerous repetitions and recollections of older opinions.
