Abstract: The article considers the way of perception and deconstruction of phenomena of camp life in the novel Abode by Zakhar Prilepin. The writer pays special attention to the early stage of the formation of the Soviet apparatus of repression. The Solovetsky Islands serve as an example of a closed, hermetic model that not only isolates priso-ners, but also changes their mentality. The ultimate goal is to create a new person. The author of the article draws attention to poststructuralist concepts related to the issues of juxtaposition of an individual and a society. An important part of the article is an attempt to recreate a sketch of the semiotic system of camp life.
