Abstract: The multiplicity of concepts which attempt to determine the delimitation of disability is evidence of the complexity of this phenomenon. The overall analysis of the evolution of the main streams and developed models highlights the changes in the perception of disability. An important step in this area was the twentieth century which was rich in transitions. Each person has gained the guarantee of subjectivity and individualization of arrangement features that it has. As a result, the demand for the creation of environments, products, technologies and services accessible and useful for “All” is growing. Universal and unlimited social participation is in fact one of the main values of modern societies. These aspirations are the source of the idea of Universal Design. The article attempts to present the main objectives of this concept, which now seems to be gaining in popularity as a proposal of practical implementation for accessibility and social participation.
