Abstract: In the context of the actions taken in the field of landscapeprotection and architecture, the need arises to implement appropriate tools for landscape monitoring. Landscape metrics can be used in order to provide a quantitative description of the landscape shape. The present paper responds to this need, hence proposing a new method of assessing the anthropogenic landscape transformation. This method is based on the correlation between the Mean Shape Index (MSI) and Shannon’s Diversity Index (SHDI), described by means of the Anthropogenic Landscape Transformation Index (ALTI). It has been assumed that a drop in this index indicates an increase in the anthropogenic landscape transformation. The findings from the research sample reveal that the ALTI value is elevated in national parks (natural landscape); it drops in rural municipalities (natural and cultural landscape); and reaches the lowest level in urban municipalities (cultural landscape).
