Abstract

The article aims to prove the need for European literature reading and regional education at the time of growing nationalism. The article author tries to describe the advantages and disadvantages of the ethnocentric attitude in contemporary humanities. He presents the metamorphosis of the messianistic ideology (the Sarmatian, Romantic and contemporary period) in Polish literature and in postsecular theory. He is also looking for common points in different national literatures, questioning the condition of contemporary Europe and the role of literature in creating its unity. The article includes a critical and historical synthesis of Polish and European writing.
