"Jak ich widzą, tak ich piszą" - rzecz o wyglądzie Słoweńców

Abstract

The authors present the research results screening the chosen semantic category of the stereotype of Slovenians. The research material consists of answers to question-naires that were distributed among the Polish and Slovenian respondents. Although all respondents admitted to encountering problems with stereotypisation, they turned out to be the perceptive observers, precisely describing the general and particular features of appearance. All the same, the material analysis hands over the following sub-categories: 1. the type of beauty; 2. physical characteristics; 3. dress; 4. gender, and along with the comparisons expressed through auto- and hetero--stereotyping, gives a way to recapture the fuller cultural and lingual picture of Slo-venians’ portrayal.
