Abstract

In Plautus’ comedy, titled Poenulus, there is a character of Hanno the Carthaginian. This a little bit humorous “guide” is based on the behavior of a main character - a slave Agarastocles - Milphio, and a soldier Antamenides. Their interactions with Hanno - an alien they have met - can be divided into classification (stereotypization based on a picture), adaptation (with the use of sophisticated insults, metaphors, as well as comparisons) and interaction itself (a conversation in Pseudo-Punic language). All mentioned stages provide vis comica.
