Miejsce i rola gatunku mowy w komunikacji międzykulturowej (perspektywa translatologiczna)

Abstract

The article assumes the special role of the speech genre in an intercultural communication which is realized in a contemporary world by means of translations of national literary works. In order to illustrate the very belief, the author analyses fragments of the French translation of Trans-Atlantic by Witold Gombrowicz (translated by Constantin Jelenski and Genevive Serreau in 1976) and excerpts of a translation of Pan Tadeusz by Adam Mickiewicz (translated by Robert Bourgeois in 1992), showing that a genre form of these outstanding texts (a noble story with its oral nature and colloquial language) constitutes the main difficulty for translators in achieving equivalence in their translation. The lack of a proper genre equivalent for a story in the French culture deprives the Polish texts of their own (Polish) genre feature, taking on more universal features instead.
