Abstract

A starting point for the analysis is the assumption that each text gives rules of a genre and a discourse. A genre and discourse are categories modeling a text treated as a communication unit. Because of a multidimensionality of a text as a research subject, requiring a holistic treatment, a genre and discourse have many common denominators and their scopes overlap. However one cannot speak of an identity of both categories. A genre, owing to the presence and role of a formal component is a formal-pragmatic category whereas a discourse, thanks to a key role of pragmatic determinants — a pragmatic category. The author looks for mutual influences (interactions), not subordination between genre and discourse relationship.
