Abstract: During the Second World War the district of Olkusz was located between the German Upper Silesia and the General Government (GG). Germans incorporated the western part of the district into the Reich because of its industrial value. However, due to the Polish character of the region, the reality of occupation resembled situation in GG rather than in the Upper Silesia. It impacted directly the functioning of the local German administration, as its leader, landrat Heinrich Groll, detailed it in his reports between September 1939 and June 1940.
