Macierzyństwo upublicznione, czyli dialog o dziecku w dramacie wspólczesnym

Abstract

The article is a deliberation on the subject of transformations in the manner of depicting motherhood in contemporary Polish dramaturgy. The analysis includes four dramatic texts by Tadeusz Różewicz (Dzidzibobo czyli miłość romantyczna czeka już pod drzwiami, 1975), Janusz Głowacki (Zaraz zaśniesz, 1980), Maria Spiss (Dziecko, 2003), and Maria Wojtyszko (Macica, 2006). The juxtaposition of the above pieces — all include the motif of childbirth — allows to indicate at significant differences in presentation of motherhood, caused by a symptomatic social phenomenon — the appearance of the private and the intimate in the public discourse. The views of sociologists and culture anthropologists (such as Anthony Giddens, Zygmunt Bauman, and Małgorzata Szpakowska, among others) on motherhood as a social role, and historical and cultural conditions of the social status of a woman-mother still remain a significant context for these deliberations.
