Natura człowieka - natura artysty w ujęciu Olafa Brzeskiego

Abstract

The article was devoted to the analysis of the phenomenon of human nature in the context of Olaf Brzeski’s selected artistic achievements. In particular, the attention was paid to works 999 and Upadek człowieka, którego nie lubię exposed during the exhibition Tylko dla moich oczu in BWA Awangarda in Wrocław at the turn of 2012 and 2013. The exposition of works of the artist from Wrocław made the author of the article reflect on the artist’s personality, a creative process and workshop that are clearly visible in particular works. At the same time, she assumed that Brzeski often makes general considerations on the human nature, not only his own. At the same time, she is particularly interested in bestiality, a dark side of the human nature allowing somehow for creating a full picture of the human being-artist. The sculptor from Wrocław often takes on the form of a superman, an individual having a supernatural power, and functioning beyond the law, that asks the question on what the people and an artist may do to achieve a desired life or artistic effect. In his works, he speaks of individuality, freedom and its limitations in the case of an artist and a human being in general. Brzeski wonders how many bans we can overcome to get to know more about ourselves, a human nature, and an animal having a developed awareness and sub-consciousness. In his art, it is not about an explicit decision, but experiencing oneself by means of the attempts at overcoming and creating as such.
