The article concerns one of the basic topics offered to the foreign language learners, namely
a characteristic of people — a self- presentation or a description of other people. The
problem is being dealt with on the material of Russian and Polish Internet matrimony questionnaires.
A mass nature of advertisements gives a possibility of distinguishing features
typical of women and men. The analysis, thus, concentrates not only on the phenomena of
(non)equivalence of means of both languages, but also the issue of taking into consideration
a gender factor in the process of learning a language as its underestimation might lead to serious
mistakes of a pragmatic nature.
