| Abstrakt: | The article describes the role and position of the Commissioner for Human Rights in Poland. It starts with information on the history of this institution in Europe underling its initiation by Swedish Ombudsman. Subsequently, the genesis of the appointment of the first Ombudsman in Poland is presented. Further, it analyses his competences, legal instruments and activities. The author concludes with stressing the role of the Commissioner for Hu-man Rights as guardian of human and citizens’ rights and freedom. |
