Abstrakt: The authors made the theoretical and empirical analysis of the styles of bringing up in the family, taking into account their characteristics and implications for development. Empirical research were conducted among adolescents (high school students) and concerned the perception of upbringing styles preferred by parents (subjective approach). it was found that the families of the young people predominate: the style democratic and liberal loving, and rare styles: autocratic and liberal unloving. it was also confirmed that the roles of parents (mother and father) differentiate preferred parenting styles: mothers often prefer the style of democratic and liberal loving, and fathers – liberal unloving. There were no differences determined by parental role with regard to the autocratic style. The analysis confirmed the high level of compliance of upbringing styles preferred by parents, which reveals itself most strongly in relation to the style of democratic and liberal unloving, slightly less in relation to the autocratic style, but the greatest inconsistency occurred in the liberal loving style.
