Abstract

The author writes about communicative, contextual and cultural teaching of Polish as a foreign language, showing how literature can be used for this purpose. The literary basis is a poem for children of Jan Brzechwa entitled Na straganie (At The Market Stall). The article shows how from introductory, language exercises, preparing to receive a poem, you can go on to record typical Polish phrases. Brzechwa’s piece is the basis for learning the vocabulary associated with vegetable names, to recognize the emotions that accompany conversations at the market stall, and finally to culinary and historical talk related to the topic of cooking.
