Principi dell’assistenza sanitaria definita come cura salubris nel trattato "Cynegetica" di Nemesiano (Nem.: Cyn. 103–238)

Abstract

Ancient literature is the source of various examples, which describe the mutual relations between people and dogs. Valuable information about dog breeding is provided by the treatise “On Hunting” (Cynegetica), which was written in the late 3rd century AD and is attributed to the Carthaginian poet – Nemesianus. Particular attention was paid to puppy care and the “fire test” used during the process of selection. The description of training of hunting dogs presented by Nemesianus can be classified as positive technique based only on rewarding the animal, which is mistakenly considered to be a modern invention, as well as showing gentleness and patience towards the dog.
