Abstrakt: The monograph discusses selected issues related to scholastic inspirations in the poetics of Maciej Kazimierz Sarbiewski. After presenting the state of research on the subject, the study raises the question of how Sarbiewski utilizes concepts taken from scholastic studies, arguing that he uses them to make his argumentation more precise. Moreover, the study shows that Sarbiewski not only uses scholastic terminology as a tool for formulating his theses, but also adopts the assumptions of Aristotle’s metaphysics. In the following parts of the study, the author argues that Sarbiewski places more emphasis than Aristotle on the analysis of the poet’s act of creation, which he understands as analogous to God’s act of creation. The study posits that Sarbiewski contends with the problem of the ontological status of fictional beings by developing his own ontology of the poetic work based on Aristotle’s metaphysics. This allows him to reevaluate the aims of the poetic work. A change in the understanding of the goal of a poetic work entails a change in the valorization of tragedy and the epic in relation to how Aristotle valued it. The monograph presents the way Sarbiewski uses the notion of analogy — it shows in particular that, although in principle the author of De perfecta poesi writes about the analogy of attribution, one can find traces of the analogy of proportionality. Another topic addressed in the publication is the reconstruction of Sarbiewski’s views on the universalists. In this context, an attempt has been made to argue that his way of presenting fictional beings and the poet’s creative act presuppose conceptual realism in the spirit of Aristotle. Consequently, the monograph presents the model of man contained in Sarbiewski’s works. In the last part of the study, the concept of creativity in Sarbiewski’s works has been compared with other approaches to the concept that appeared in the Romantic era.
